Kids Martial Arts

Will Martial Arts make my kid violent?
No way! In fact, martial arts makes kids calmer and more respectful than ever. Martial arts always has been about peace, and it always will be.
Can my child get injured with Martial Arts?
As a parent, I'm sure you've seen that kids can get injured doing just about anything. Martial arts is no different, however we take safety very seriously here. Yes, injuries do sometimes happen. But we do everything in our power to avoid them. We do special exercises and stretches to make your child's body limber and flexible.
My child isn't athletic. Can they still participate in Martial Arts if
they're not athletic?
Absolutely. Martial Arts teaches kids to be coordinated, flexible and strong. Kids who don't naturally have these qualities develop them. Kids who do have these qualities grow them even more.
Are these Martial Arts classes fun?
Yes! After all, these are children we're dealing with here. And kids love their fun. We do a variety of games and activities that have kids howling with laughter, and constantly smiling. We work hard here - but we play just as hard.

Adult Martial Arts

Q: "Is there a risk for injury with martial arts?"
Any sport or form of exercise comes with a risk of injury. However, there are a few things that make our program very safe. It's because of these few things that we barely see any injuries with our program.

Stretching: At the beginning of every class we go through a series of stretches. These stretches get your muscles and joints ready and warmed up for exercise.

Supervision: Every class is supervised by trained, licensed professionals. We watch carefully to make sure no student is doing anything in a dangerous or unsafe way.

In short, we place a tremendous amount of focus on fun and safety. It's because of this that we feel confident telling you that while there is risk for injury with our program - it's a very small risk.
Q: “What level of fitness is required for martial arts?”
People come to us of all fitness levels. We get natural-born athletes, and we get people who have a harder time with athletic endeavors. However, everyone gets the same focus and attention.

If you're not in great shape, don't worry. Go at your own pace, and we'll do everything we can to help you learn each and every technique. Soon enough, your physical fitness will improve, and you'll be in better shape than ever!
Q: “Is martial arts violent?”
No! Because self-defense technique is taught in martial arts, it's often thought of as violent. However, the philosophies behind martial arts revolve around peace and harmony. The moves are more of a way to become connected with your body. We teach diplomacy and friendship. However, if a violent situation ever arises in your life, you'll have powerful tools to defend yourself and your loved ones.

Family Martial Arts

Q: Do people get injured in class?
A: Sometimes. But the truth is, injuries are very rare here. We have a lot of measures in place to keep your whole family safe. In fact, safety is our #1 concern.
Q: Can we participate in family martial arts if we’re not fit or experienced?
A: You bet. In fact, martial arts is like a beacon of light for kids who just don't fit into team sports and for adults who feel intimated at a gym. Kids who could never throw a ball well or run fast find that martial arts is very welcoming and they feel a sense of belonging. It's something your whole family can excel at and, as a result, your confidence will soar.
Q: Is it hard to learn martial arts and do the techniques?
A: Martial arts can be challenging at times, especially when we focus and concentrate intently... but we always balance it out with fun and games to keep everything upbeat and exciting. Students have a blast here and there's a lot of smiles, happiness, and high fives in every class.
Q: Why would a family want to do martial arts together instead of separately?
A: Training together as a family is a great way to spend quality time together, strengthen the family bond, and grow together to be the best possible version of yourselves. In addition to having fun and creating lifelong memories, you also save a lot of money when you train together instead of separately.

Hapkido

Q: What exactly is Hapkido and what can I expect in class?
A: Hapkido is a Korean Martial Art of self- defense. Unlike most martial arts, Hapkido is a complete system teaching kicks, punches, pressure point techniques, throws, joint locks, weapons, free fighting, ki and meditation. Many other martial arts are “hard” – they rely on physical power and are offense oriented. Hapkido is “soft” and defensive, emphasizing throws, twists and pressure point techniques.
Q: What if I don’t have any martial arts experience?
A: No worries. You don’t need any martial arts experience to start Hapkido training. That’s our job… to train you in Hap: The coordination of mind and body. Ki: The inner energy that is created and manifested through “Hap” and Do: The self-controlled and disciplined life necessary to create “Hap” and “Ki”. The system is designed to take people with no previous experience and bring them to a level of proficiency, self-knowledge, and confidence.
Q: Are the classes hard and should I get in shape first?
A: While the classes can be challenging and physically demanding at times, you do not need to get in shape first. Hapkido is suitable for all ages and abilities, regardless of fitness level. In fact, taking classes is the best way to get into shape. Our class format is created to push students but also allow them to progress and reach their goals at a pace they feel comfortable with.
Q: Is the training safe?
A: Safety is our top priority so not only is our facility safe, we also help you build a strong foundation before you climb the Hapkido ladder, so to speak. You decide when and how far you want to progress and what intensity you want. Everyone here is very supportive and helpful in training.
